1. Name three ways using color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis from sequence to sequence?
Color enhances the chromatic metamorphosis in three ways from sequence to sequence: Shifting hues, constant light, and consistent character colorization. The hue of the background shifts between each composition in the sequence, making each image pop. The constant light to the right of each image helps keep a consistent theme between each image, so that we as viewers feel that each image is a new snapshot within the same space. The characters in each image maintain a consistent color as well, which helps us to follow along the metamorphosis.
3. How is perspective used in the overall composition?
What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between the steps?
Linear perspective is used to give the illusion or appearance of a three dimensional space. For the overall composition, linear perspective was used to give the illusion that the fish was in water at various positions and depths from the water’s surface.
For the first three images one-point perspective was used to scale and position the fish, worm on a hook and octopus.
The vanishing point is the place in an image where the implied lines of linear perspective converge.
For the series of images or the overall composition, this was the upper right corner where there is bright spot or area to give the illusion that this light is on the surface of the water. The series of images have a radial gradient with the vanishing point being its center. The darker areas of the gradient give the illusion of depth while the lighter areas are closer to the surface of the water.
Two-point perspective is used for the last four images with the three smaller fish.
The second vanishing point is the upper left corner that is used to properly scale or size the smaller fish following the bigger fish. The implied lines converge on this second vanishing point and can be used to properly scale the smaller fish.
By changing from one-point prospective in the first three images to two-point perspective in the last four images the composition’s story or narrative is more interesting and enhanced as are the transitions.
The changing of the color and texture of the background images together with the very effective use of one-point and two-point perspective to properly scale and position the various image elements enhanced the composition’s chromatic metamorphosis and its transitions.
I really enjoyed your excellent project and creativity in telling a story with seven images.
5. What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Is there enough contrast between each of the seven images to get a true feeling of chromatic metamorphosis, explain? If not also explain?
I think the quality of this design is excellent. I love how she made her initial into the fish hook. Also, throughout the slides, you feel the movement and direction that the fish are moving. The contrast of colors works very well while keeping the main fish the same color throughout each image. Very creative Jessica.
Question 2:
What type of balance is used in the metamorphosis and what is the point of focus? Does either change between the steps or do they remain the same throughout the stpes?
Jessica K
For me, my eyes kept following the fish more than the letter, though I think its fine. Crystallographic balance was used in the metamorphosis. Both the use and texture and color change was very effective. It made the design fun, creative and witty.
Jessica,
3. How is perspective used in the overall composition? What type of perspective is used and how does it enhance the composition and/or the transition between steps?
What a truly fun sequence. The use of the mosaic pattern is the best I have seen in a very long time. It gives the compositions a unique sense of cartoon while having a mature element also. Nice! As for the perspective in this composition – not much. While we do have the sunbeams streaming from the upper right, we aren’t quite sure if we’re looking straight up or if the sun is somehow underwater with us. If the sunbeams were rotated to seem like they’re coming more from the top it won’t increase the perspective, but it will allow us to place ourselves more easily in the composition. That being said the sunbeams are quite nice and dreamy – can you teach me how to do that?

4. Describe what is potentially happening between the steps. How effective is the continuity between the seven steps, explain? If the continuity is not effective why is it not working?
Jessica K
Your story-telling skills with images are great!
The texture of the background is very visible with thick lines and it has a worm on a J for bait and the fish notices it. In the second image of the sequence, the fish approaches the worm. In the third image , the fish eats the worm. The fish is caught in the J in one image and in the next he looks like he is struggling with it. Later he is released fom the J and in the final image the J pulls away from the fish. The image changes the texture and color of the background. I think the images are effective because I kept thinking about the next picture in the sequence and how will it look? The fish and the worm attract all my attention. I liked the picture really much.
